Sunshine Room - 2.5 to 3 years old
The children develop social interaction skills, recognition of the basic primary colors and shapes and are introduced tot he numbers 1-10 and letters A-J. We use a center based curriculum that teaches the children real life skills as they play. Letter identification is reinforced through "letter puppets" and other items that makes real-life connections for kids. The teachers introduce these concepts during circle time, where the children are also exposed to calendar concepts, new songs, finger plays, concepts of the month, the weather etc. After an item is introduced it can then be built upon through child initiated center play.
The development of fine motor skills are encouraged through the manipulation of play dough, lacing beads and the counting, stacking and transferring of miniature items. THe development of gross motor skills are encouraged through daily outdoor play, exercise, jumping, skipping, climbing and hopping.
